More often than not, a fairytale begins with a setting in some sort of magical forest or lush hillside. Rarely do we find ourselves entering the story midway through the conflict or smack dab in an intimate conversation. No. It always begins like this… Once upon a time, in a land far, far away…
The reason the land is always so far away is because the author wants us to believe this place is unreachable. Typically, humans couldn’t possibly be so fortunate to live in a kingdom; however, despite most popular belief, having your own fairytale is still entirely possible.
Bring that distant, magical palace into your own vicinity and capture the fairytale landscape of your dreams. You too can have the enchanted garden you have always wanted, and you don’t have to go out and find a wizard to get one. Simply contact us at The Cutting Edge Landscape and let us take care of the rest. Before you know it, you could be walking through the garden of your wildest imagination.
Our Legacy and Commitment
The Cutting Edge Landscape began with the vision of a single man, Matt Preuss, who founded this business right after college in the year 2002 with his B.A. in Landscape Architecture from Ball State University. Young and determined, he set out with one goal in mind, to help others discover the beauty that lies hidden within their own property, and today we still stick to this same motto.
We understand the importance of a home. It’s a place of absolute comfort, love, and growth, which is why the entryway or garden must reflect those same values. A kingdom is only as good as its enchanted forest, and therefore, we put our best skills forward to enhance your home with the same fairytale magic, but in the form of expert craftsmanship, careful planning, and specific needs. We pride our team on exceptional service with precise attention to detail and customer relationships. Not to mention, we cater to all kinds of landscaping requirements from business offices to drought tolerant gardens, so we know we can always get the job done right every time.
Thanks to the love and support from our loyal clients, who we consider to be our friends and family, our services have been able to expand into a multitude of different cities and neighborhood. One such location that we cater to is the beautiful coastal city of Torrance, set in the South Bay of Los Angeles County.
Though this metropolitan was only recently incorporated as a California city in 1921, Torrance’s origins stretch back thousands of years ago, as it was originally part of the Tongva Native American Homeland.
In 1784, a Spanish land grant was issued by the Spanish Empire, which annexed the property of Rancho San Pedro under the power of “New Spain”. The land was subdivided into units, one of which is current day Torrance.
However, the city of Torrance didn’t get its current name until the early 1900s when real estate developer Jared Sidney Torrance began to semi-industrialize the plot. He purchased part of the Spanish Land Grant for his own use and hired master architect Fredrick Law Olmsted to design a new plan for a community around his proposals for corporate firms, which was officially founded in the state of California in 1912. From then on, the growth of the city only grew thanks to the industrialization during World War II and Post-war Aerospace manufacturers.
Today, Torrance is famous for its safe streets and friendly people. In fact, the city consistently ranks among the safest cities in LA County because of its extremely low crime rate. This is because of its tremendous focus on the development of their youth. In fact, this city is the birthplace of the famous American Youth Soccer Organization, which aims to educate kids on teamwork, responsibility, and companionship through the excitement and fun of soccer.
Fun Things to Do
Since Torrance is located on the Pacific Coast, it is home to some of the most beautiful beaches around. Not to mention, they are much quieter and less populated with tourists compared to neighboring shorelines like Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach. Torrance beach, most locally known as “Rat Beach” because both the city of Redondo and Torrance share it, is nestled within the sandy white cliffs of the Palos Peninsula and always receives the constant costal sunshine Southern California is famous for. Enjoy countless fun in the sun from swimming to bike riding and any land or water activity in between. Not to mention, Torrance waters are well known for their righteous waves for surfing, but also their incredible underwater sights as well which makes these currents perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving as well. There are even volleyball courts, which are perfect for a shore side pickup game when the water is not quite calling your name.
For more nature calling fun, we enjoy a day trip down to the Madrona March Nature Center, one of the county’s few urban wetlands. This center is perfect for tame exploring as it aims to preserve the natural land and habitats of local animals, birds, wildlife, and native plants. The Madrona Marsh offers activities, information, and classes for children and visitors of all ages, so anyone, big or small, is guaranteed to find some sort of excitement here on the reserve. Or take a short drive down south and stop by the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach to visit ocean friends like the jellyfish, penguins, and sea otters. You can even pet a shark or stingray!
Torrance is also home to over 30 city parks and outdoor recreation centers which cater to mountain biking, hiking, playgrounds, and jogging tracks fit for any easy day outside in the warm LA breeze.
Just downtown is the Del Amo Fashion Center, which is one of the five largest malls in the United States and houses stores from the traditional big names like Nordstrom and American Eagle to the smaller, more intimate shops like Frostbites crepes and frozen delights or Lush natural beauty and cosmetics. This center even has a movie theater!
For a taste of Los Angeles’ social and artistic hype check out the Torrance Cultural Art Center. Here, groups across the nation perform shows ranging in ballets to musicals. Some favorite shows include the Torrance Symphony and the Aerospace Players, who are former rocket scientists and air force pilots who have a passion for performance art after their services.
If you enjoy history then you will love the Armed Forces Day Parade. Torrance, since the year 1960, puts on this annual parade for Armed Forces Day, celebrated on the third Saturday of May. This holiday celebrates and honors all the proud Americans, past and present, who served our country with their military service and features military vehicles, such as tanks and convoy trucks, school bands, and prominent community members. Torrance is proud of this celebration because it is the longest running military parade sponsored by a city.
Torrance is also home to the Southern California Live Steamers Miniature Railroad, which offers free train rides on actual miniature live steam engines on the first Sunday and third Saturday of every month.
For some grown-up entertainment, check out the Alpine Village, home of the biggest Oktoberfest celebration in southern California. Even if this wild shindig is not quite in town, stepping foot into this Bavarian village is a must if you enjoy handcrafted beer, fine restaurants, and nightclubs. Can’t get enough? Book an LA Beer Hop tour where a bus full of your friends will drive throughout the city and take you to the hottest clubs, bars, and pubs to sample some of the most incredible and extravagant beverages imaginable.
With so much family fun for all ages, it’s hard to imagine how anyone could ever return to work after a fun-filled weekend in Torrance. However, we at The Cutting Edge Landscape find it a thrill to meet new families and tend to their every garden need. Our passion is for plants and people, and without either, we are not satisfied with our employment.
